Copyright

Copyright is a major issue in the illustration industry- not only people not giving credit for reposting, using, and selling other people’s work and original ideas, but also the widespread social media trend and the instant sharing and unlimited viewing is very problematic- your ideas are out there for everyone to see, unregulated who uses them.
I realised i have not really protected the work i have been putting out there- even though I’m still learning, doesn’t make my work not valid and need protection from people who want to use my ideas or images. To up my safety from now on, ill try my hardest to
  • Only post low-resolution images to social media, so they can’t be re-used
  •  Watermark and label all my work with my name or website
  •  Look into metadata, and find out how to use it properly.
  •  Give credit to other artists when sharing their work, not use any of their work for my own inspiration or use their work as an aspect of mine
  • State clearly that all of my images belong to me
  •  Always use a clear contract when working with clients- specify the uses and the rights of the image. Understand copyright and ownership have different rules.
