JEAN JULLIEN

‘I think humor, especially in politics is a great stuff, you know. You can pretty much talk about anything if you do it in a semi-respective way. I think sometimes it’s a good thing to poke fun at people and things; I think if people can laugh at themselves they can laugh at anything.’
Jean Jullien

'While his distinctive black line illustration style has earned him a wide range of clients and fans alike, his output now in fact spans graphics, animation, products and installation. For an artist as observant as Jullien, a new city is an untapped well from which to draw further inspiration.'

why do I like ??? this???
humour, simple lines and colours, easy to understand and relatable to everyone.
instantly recognisable style, most of all the humour though, feels very witty and thought through, very pleasing and satisfying.
'visual puns'

how do he do the thing he do

i think it is mostly brush and ink to be honest.
i have seen him painting with a paintbrush.
that might be how.

overarching themes

comedy, satire, wit, funny stuff, politics, social media, technology, relationships, religion, social life, everyday life

where is it and who is it for?

Instagram, published books, for magazines, also in exhibitions.

how does it relate to me

I really enjoy the visually funny and clever things also the human-y feel to it where everyone can relate and it is very socially based, that i like. I also like the way its all drawn, it is simple and clever and economic and visually appealing and colourful and easy to be around. yes. maybe a lit too simple? but maybe editorial work and stuff he does needs to be this quickly recognizable.
